We have just confirmed that there is a post-graduation employment program which should allow Marina to stay in Canada with a work permit for up to x years after graduating from an x-year degree program. Her MMus is a 2 year program, so this would give us 1 or 2 years to save the $13500 settlement funds we need to apply for permanent residence. We may try to take this route if she decides to stop studying or fails to get accepted in a PhD or DMA program. If she goes on studying, it will be a simple matter to extend her study permit, and my work permit along with it.
We also checked how many points we would score in the permanent residence test if we were to apply right after she gets her MMus, and I would safely go over the minimum of 67 points (she has less points than me for not having a partner with a Canadian degree, so I would be the principal applicant).
